Ep18: Not for the Faint of Heart
· Written by Andrew · Sunday, 21 June 2009 20:00 ·
Here comes a hefty serving of pie, with over 75min of crust. For this being mostly a retro gaming crew, 2004 lit up many consoles for us and there was a lot to talk about for this year. Ben points out early how at this point we had a lot of other stuff on our plates, so for this many games to shine through makes them something truly special. Jaime starts off on Ninja Gaiden and explains the courage you would need to attempt this game, with its higher skill level and impossible difficulties. Andrew rants (and rants and rants) about Burnout 3: Takedown. Here's the short version; its fast and has good physics and gameplay. Kerry talks about the expansive Spiderman 2, how great the swinging was and jumping off the Empire State Building. Everyone drops in their two cents on one of the great Tom Clancy sponsored games, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. This was one of the games that was great to play over Xbox Connect and the platoon reminisce about spies vs mercs and messed up control styles. Some brief info is given on Chronicles of Riddick: Butcher Bay, while no good info is given on Fable, which was still a decent game, or Halo 2, which was a terrible piece of shit. The end of the night brings a gut check and a late night phone call. Overall, one of the best episodes yet, enjoy. Ep17: It's a Port Barrel
· Written by Andrew · Sunday, 14 June 2009 18:00 ·
Mario_Golf_Toadstool_TourThis episode is jammed pack full of amazing games and is surprisingly not a year from the early 90's. The LP2 review the top console games of 2003 and have a tough time whittling them down to the top two. First up we get into Mario Golf Toadstool Tour and how precise a golf game it actually is, despite being a title for the Gamecube. "Bigger" games that year are up next, and even though they were part of the hype machine they were well worth the gas as we look at Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. (PoP:SoT). These games both lived up to the mass marketing that they had, which again, is a surprise in this day and age. Soul Calibur 2 was a fantastic follow-up title in the great fighting series and was released on all three platforms at the time, with a different special character on each console, but is that enough to beat out one of the other giants for a spot on our Cut The Crust List? Oh, and Kerry never gets to talk about MVP Baseball, perhaps another time.

Ep16: I Don't Want to Live Anymore
· Written by Andrew · Sunday, 07 June 2009 18:00 ·
yars_revenge_boxEpisode 16 is a momentous segment as it debuts the use of headsets by the LP2. So with unheard of quality the platoon digs into some early 80's games. After some debate over pronunciation of Galaga, everyone takes their swing at Donkey Kong, possibly one of the best known games of all time and re-surging as of late thanks to Steve Weibe and the documentary about him titled King of Kong. Kerry starts chatting about Yars Revenge before Jaime highlights a couple of big games for the Intellivision; Astrosmash and Starstrike, even though Andrew and Ben try to sidetrack him with Mario and Star Trek. Frogger, now of Seinfeld fame probably more than anything else, rounds out 1981 on the console side, and again, the LP2 have to go to an outside call to decide which games are Cutting Crust.
